LOCATION: Cheshire Bespoke - Lutwyche suit production facility
SOLUTION: Evaporative cooling
BACKGROUND:
Cheshire Bespoke who produce the famous Lutwyche bespoke suits from their production facility in Crewe were looking for a cost effective and fuel efficient way to cool the workers in In the main production area where the suits are tailored (a mezzanine floor where the temperatures were reaching up to 350C), and also the bottom area where the steam irons were situated.
EVAPORATIVE COOLING SOLUTION:
A single roof mounted Evaporative Cooler was installed which discharges cooled fresh air through horizontally mounted ductwork and a series of grilles positioned above the work stations.
The ductwork was positioned such that the air provided cooling for the mezzanine floor and at the same time discharged cooled air to the lower floor where the steam irons are located.
SUMMARY:
The air temperature on the mezzanine floor has now been reduced to an acceptable level of below 250C. A pleasant working environment has now been created leading to increased efficiency and improved moral. This has been achieved using just one Evaporative Cooler at an installed cost of under 5K which has been able provide up to 35kw of equivalent cooling load from a 13amp electrical supply and a simple water connection, with running costs expected to be in the region of 10p per hour. Evaporative Cooling was the obvious choice for Energy efficient cooling.
