Air Conditioning to all areas of a Major Retail Flagship Store, Dublin
American Apparel are the largest garment factory in the United States. Their first retail store was opened in 2003 and they now have over 260 stores in 19 different countries. Their first store in the UK opened in 2004 in Carnaby Street, London.
The building that now houses their flag ship store in Dublin, used to be a bank and along with this building they also inherited the bank’s existing air conditioning system. This has proved to be inefficient in two areas of the store :-
- The ground floor entrance way – Because the store operates an open door trading policy all year round, this area was very cold during the winter months. Also they usually employ a member of staff to stand in the entrance way welcoming customers. The staff and customers complained about the cold temperatures during the winter. Austin Broady Air Conditioning and Ventilation’s solution was to fit de-stratification fans in this area to pull down some of the hot air from the very high ceilings and also to fit additional air conditioning units to increase the heat output.
- The first floor – The problem on the first floor area was that it was consistently too warm all year round. Their original solution was to leave the doors and windows open but, for health and safety reasons, this was not practical and so Austin Broady Air Conditioning and Ventilation installed extra air conditioning units in this area to give additional cooling.
This was a turnkey project which included the installation of 5 air conditioning systems and de-stratification fans, along with electrical and builders works and interior decoration.
